A month of Mondays

There’s not denying it, January tests your resolve. I actually welcome the extra time at home in the middle of winter to tie up loose ends from the year just gone and work on plans for the year ahead. It requires a stamina unlike no other month though, particularly in calendar years like this that give us FIVE Mondays (one of which was ‘blue’).

I’ve felt my mood shift from day to day, sometimes even hour to hour. At times I’ve harnessed the optimism and used it like rocket fuel, at others I’ve had pangs of anxiety that felt eerily familiar to more serious bouts of depression I’ve experienced in the past.

I’ve read and heard lots of people say that it helps to observe these feelings as passing phenomena, the good and the bad, rather than something that restricts or defines us. I’m probably still mastering this skill, though it definitely helps me to keep a level head.

Some highlights from January have included the influx of ‘Veganuary’ product launches to hunt down and try, a couple of new additions to the Beer Tours listings, an absolute result for my Pez collection (bought a large chunk of someone else’s collection for a very good price), managing to build my daily steps count back closer to 10,000 a day (I’d been slacking big time) and last but not least, these amazing tacos from The Smoked Vegan at Salisbury Vegan Fair.
