Guest talk at Bournemouth University

Back at BU again today for a guest lecture I first gave in this same Lecture Theatre back in 2012. The talk has evolved a bit over the years, we didn’t really use the term ‘personal brand’ back then, it was just your ‘online profile’ and much more about what you didn’t want people to see rather than making the stuff you do want people to see go further.

I always like a full circle moment and being in the Allsebrook where it started definitely felt like one. I thought it was probably time to retire most of the slides after I last gave the talk in December. The majority have been in the deck since 2019 and the world has changed a lot since then. A few new additions has kept the presentation relevant but I think I will ceremoniously archive the talk now and rewrite it for any future sessions.

With that in mind I did a bit of research as part of today’s session. I asked all the students who attended to ask a question anonymously by writing it on a piece of paper and posting it in a box. I was interested to find out what they wanted to know beyond what was included in my content.

I picked a few at random from the box to answer in the time we had left at the end of the session, but I plan on working through the rest of these to help shape a new version of the talk.

Thanks to Stuart and Shenel for inviting me back again, it’s always a great opportunity to reflect on my thoughts about the subject and lovely to catch up with my former colleagues!
