A strange thing happened to me on the train to the YATM x Espresso+ ‘MATEY’ event in Bath this month. I had a playlist of new and recent albums to listen to, one of which was Nothing But Thieves. I knew they were due to be playing a rescheduled gig in Bournemouth the following week, and having enjoyed the album began to wonder who might be interested in going.
At the very same time I had a message from Zelda de Hollander saying “Nothing But Thieves?”. My first thought was to look around the train to see if she was watching me. By sheer coincidence it turned out she had a spare ticket for the show. I definitely couldn’t pass on this moment of serendipity and took her up on the offer.
Now it should be noted that Zelda and I have a friendly competition going this year to see who can clock up the most gigs attended by the end of 2023. We’re neck and neck currently, so she may live to regret the generosity come 31st December…
