A tale of two decades

It’s been great to reconnect with Bournemouth and Poole College this Autumn. Back in September I went along to Stuart Palmer‘s conference event for the Digital and Creative Industries at Treehouse Digital and was delighted to be reunited with my former lecturers, Mike Bush and Rob Forrester. Last month I had a lot of fun being part of panel discussions hosted at the college by Mark Masters and You Are The Media

Today I completed the BPC hat-trick. Christina Castello kindly invited me to give a talk about my career to date for this year’s T Level ‘Digital’ course cohort.

For better or worse, I decided to structure my slides with each covering a year of my life since 2003, which was around the time I applied to my own course at B&P, the AVCE Double Award in Media Communications and Production. The format kept me on track but it was still a lot of story to condense into an hour session, with time included for a Q+A as well.

I can only hope it wasn’t too overwhelming for the students. It did knock me off my feet a little to say it all aloud to be honest, particularly with the visual aid of photos and projects representing each year on the screen beside me, my life flashing before my eyes.

As another year draws to a close it’s inevitable that we begin to reflect a little on the past twelve months, and the sum total of those plus the years that came before it (I have the double whammy of my birthday falling at the end of December, just to really reinforce the habitual retrospection). This talk was a pertinent opportunity to try and make sense of it all on a timeline, for a room of strangers who weren’t even born until 2007/2008 (slides 5 and 6 🤯).
