I was back at Foundry again on Friday for one more YATM event to close the year out, GAME NITE. I set this up in 2022, with Mark’s encouragement, as a social event with a focus. A quiz that’s more of a game show than standard pub fare. See it for yourself in the video above (filmed and edited by Ben Ingram) as, for one night only, Champions of The Media became Champions of Christmas.

It always feels like a massive leap of faith that people are going to buy in on the night. Each time the gamble has paid off massively. Whenever I’m putting the event together I second guess whether or not it’s forced fun. From the first heckle of the night I’m reassured that those in attendance have made the choice to have fun, it’s their show, I’m just there to create the opportunities.
That’s a very serious take on something described as “bat-shit crazy” (possibly my favourite review ever).

Congrats to our winners, ‘The WILFs’ (That’s Winners I‘d Like To F…ollow?) made up of Claire Main, Mark C. , Esraa Al Saab and Elizabeth Naulls. They took home the trophy with 23 points, just beating ‘The Lords of the Ring’ who finished on 21. Congrats also to Mark and Rachel Williams on their word record re-attempt, who in a draw, both beat Mark’s previous record by one, making 13 toilet rolls stacked a joint victory in the YATM Books of Records.
