Live music has been a big part of my life for 20 years. I wrote recently about my first gig in May 2003. It’s hard to believe now that in 2020 I didn’t go to a single show. When they started up again in Autumn 2021 I managed to squeeze a few in. Last year I was making up for lost time with a total of 19. I really didn’t think I’d be able to top that in 2023.
Turns out, I smashed it, beating last year by 5 with a total of 24! What a show to close on as well, The Darkness at Roundhouse in Camden, celebrating 20 years of their debut Permission To Land. Rather fittingly, the last time I saw them was also 20 years ago, in December 2003.
I’ve been working on a complete Gigography of all the shows I’ve ever attended. It’s by no means a complete list, I keep remembering others, but everything I’ve listed so far can be found here.
Last month I shared details of Zelda and I having a friendly wager on who could attend the most gigs in 2023. I can now confirm that I won, by one.
