Tech Futures at the National Oceanography Centre

It’s a privilege to be in a position where I regularly have days away from my desk to listen and learn from others. This isn’t lost on me on these occasions and yesterday was no exception. At a time when H.I. (human intelligence) appears to be somewhat lacking in society, education feels like an antidote to despair.

Perhaps that’s a grandiose way to begin a post about my day out at the National Oceanography Centre, but yesterday’s ‘Tech Futures’ event, put together by Mo Humphries was much needed after a weekend relapse into doomscrolling. From the off, talks delivered by Sean M. Tracey and Jonny Williams gave pragmatic takes that reassured me we’re not all aboard a tech hype train with no direction while the world burns.

I was inspired by Holly New‘s adoption of VR to propel her fashion designing talents, traiblazing in her industry with absolute conviction when it would be so easy for any of us to down tools on our ambitions.

In fact all the talks were of such a high calibre I wish the venue capacity had been quadruple the size so that others could have heard what we did throughout the day. That said, I’m sure you will be hearing from each of these folks soon if you haven’t already.

I’m pleased that we (Grapevine) were able to support the event as sponsors and congrats to my colleague George Complin on the talk he gave on ‘Securing The Future’.
